Cinco de Mayo in Saint Jo

March 26, 2012

On Saturday, 5 May, Corinth Cycling will return en masse to Saint Jo, TX for the first time since Scotty’s fabled Birthday Brr-thday Blowout of many winters ago. We’ll ride the hilly 65-mile route identified as “St. Jo Loop” on the Ride Maps page of this website, then limp over to the DQ for unhealthy food and other forms of cultural immersion. This is a great route, and we’re hoping for a big turnout.

As of today, 26 March, the HDCC team, the A-Group, and the B-Group have committed. We’d love to have the C-Folks on board, too, of course. Groups will roll out from the St. Jo town square (FM 677, S. Main, Howell, and Broad Streets) at short intervals, starting at 8:00 a.m.

In order to save gas and maximize camaraderie, please arrange to carpool or show up at Crownover at 6:30 a.m. ready to share your car or to jump into someone else’s. Saint. Jo is 60.5 miles from the parking lot, and we’re unlikely to hit traffic on the way up. Directions are effortlessly available on line (short version: go to Gainesville and turn left).

In the event of bad weather or the likelihood of same, group leaders (Roland, Mark, and Sam) will decide whether or not to pull the plug for their group. Further announcements will appear on the Forum.

It’ll be a great ride and it’s a lovely time of year. Join us after the ride for bugers at the Saint Jo Dairy Queen.

Corinth Cycling/Harden Dental Rides Away in Denton

March 12, 2012

Devon and Bob make their break in the Denton Crit

The Corinth Cycling/Harden Dental race team continued its strong start to the season with a fine showing in the Denton Criterium on Saturday. Despite the steady rain and 50 degree temperature, 21 racers took the start in the Cat 4 race.

The pack huddled together for the first 20 minutes of the race as the rooster tails shot 20 feet up into the sky. About halfway through the crit, CCHD riders Bob Baatz and Devon Coetzer attacked the field on the short hill just before the start finish line. One rider tried to solo across the gap but couldn’t quite make it. Working together, Baatz and Coetzer were able to extend their lead over the peloton to almost one minute. They crossed the finish line together with Bob taking the win and Devon finishing second.

Congrats to Mark Manning and Roland San Miguel for also finishing in the Top 10. It was a great display of teamwork and determination in the harsh conditions.

Corinth Cycling/Harden Dental Gains Momentum with Team GC Victory

The Corinth Cycling/Harden Dental race team continues to gain momentum after capturing 1st place in the Mineral Wells Stage Race – Team GC 35+ 4/5. “This was a concerted effort by all and everyone did really great” noted The Shield. “Despite the weather, we all had a great time and by the end of the weekend we had turned in some amazing results to obtain our goal.”

The team has continued to press and train hard. Team members spent the past couple of weekends training hills in the Argyle area and followed up with a pre-ride of the Celina course over the weekend. If the hills in Mineral Wells weren’t enough, Celina offers up some steady rollers that are sure test everyone. It will be quite clear by the end of the race who has done their hill work and mental toughness will play a huge factor!

This weekend the team keeps things local with the Denton Crit at CH Collins Stadium on Saturday March 10th, followed by a road race on Sunday the 11th in Celina – Jesuit Ranger Roundup. The team would like to encourage club members and friends to come out and support the team. If you’ve never watched a crit or road race, they can be quite exciting and these are in our backyard. Just having supporters on the sidelines gives us a huge motivation to perform at our best.
